Poor and Non-White Students Don’t Receive Adequate Support on High-Stakes Tests
A new report from The Education Trust finds that the number of students of color taking Advanced Placement (AP) tests is increasing, but their success rates are trailing behind their peers. Systems for Success: Thinking Beyond Access to AP argues that school leaders must match efforts to expand access to AP courses with a focus on ensuring student achievement and college readiness for students of color and low-income students. The report highlights two high schools that have shown success in increasing AP enrollment and pass rates among low-income students and students of color, and recommends that school leaders ensure that curricula between grades builds consistent knowledge from year to year.
