In the second installment of Spotlight on Poverty and Opportunity ’s new web cast series, U.S. Congressman Jim McDermott (D-WA) discusses prospects for a new poverty measure as well as other legislative concerns confronting low-income populations and those living in poverty. Rep. McDermott is serving his tenth term as Congressman for Washington ’s 7th Congressional District, which includes Seattle and parts of several neighboring communities. As chairman of the Subcommittee on Income, Security and Family Support of the House Ways and Means Committee, Rep. McDermott has been working in concert withSenator Chris Dodd (D-CT), chairman of the Subcommittee on Children and Families of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, on legislation to update the federal poverty measure.
