In the fall of 2012, Spotlight on Poverty and Opportunity and the National League of Cities Institute for Youth, Education & Families, co-sponsored a series of three national audio conferences this fall entitled, "Cities Promote Opportunity." The first audio conference, "New City Task Forces," took place on Thursday, September 20, 2012. Speakers on the conference call discussed how in Hartford, Conn. and Richmond, Va., task forces have recently been created and the priority recommendations in each city. Questions explored include what is the expectation around implementation? How will progress be assessed? And what are the key components of making job creation ideas work and stick over long the haul?
