Spotlight Webcast: How Shrinking State Budgets are Affecting Low-Income Families

Although the economy is beginning to show signs of recovery, low-income families continue to struggle to make ends meet. And at a time of high-demand for social services, states are making drastic budget cuts to education, healthcare and other vital supports. This Spotlight webcast examines what state and local governments are doing to mitigate the impact of the recession on low-income families. The interview also examines the impact of federal fiscal relief and other American Recovery and Reinvestment Act provisions intended to offset state budget cuts.

Featured guests are Nick Johnson, director,  State Fiscal Project, Center on Budget and Policy Priorities(CBPP); Elaine Mejia, director, North Carolina Budget and Tax Center; and Noah Berger, executive director, Massachusetts Budget and Policy Center

To learn more about the impact of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) on poverty, read CBPP's new report, State-Level Data Show Recovery Act Protecting Millions From Poverty. Spotlight's Mary Jo Gilmore moderates this webcast.
