The Measure of America

Watch the videos featuring Sarah Burd-Sharps and Kristen Lewis, Ron Haskins, and Candy Hill

The new American Human Development Report, The Measure of America 2010-2011: Mapping Risks and Resilience was launched at an event co-sponsored with Spotlight on November 10, 2010 at the Kaiser Family Foundation in Washington, DC.

Spotlight’s Jodie Levin-Epstein discussed the report in separate webcasts with the co-authors of the report, Sarah Burd-Sharps and Kristen Lewis from the American Human Development Project; Ron Haskins, Senior Fellow, Economic Studies
and Co-Director, Center on Children and Families, Brookings Institution; and Candy S. Hill, Sr. Vice President, Catholic Charities USA.

The discussions revolve around the latest findings of the American Human Development Project’s updated 2010-2011 Index of well-being and opportunity. New rankings by state, congressional district, racial and ethnic group, and gender reveal huge gaps and growing inequality when it comes to access to the building blocks of a good life - health, education, and income.
